OUR WORK

The Scaled team has worked on a variety of structural projects, a selection of which are shown below. Working with customers, Scaled takes structural concepts and moves them quickly through a development phase and into production.

TEMPORARY STRUCTURES FOR MASS PARTICIPATION EVENT

This project called for creation of over 50 temporary structures, each over 3.5 metres high. The Scaled team worked with the concept designers and were able to engineer a solution that was sustainable, true to the original aesthetic design and was practical from an assembly and storage perspective. The structures utilised over 2 tonnes of 3D printed parts made from recycled materials and a further 12 tonnes of recycled plastic in other build materials.

CHAMELEON - WHOLE VEHICLE ENGINEERING AROUND 3D PRINTED CHASSIS

In this project Scaled built and drove Europe's first 3D printed electric vehicle, capable of speeds up to 40mph. The project demonstrates the structural capability of 3D printed plastic, with the chassis of the vehicle being made from 3D printed Nylon, 30% of which is recycled. The 3D printed parts are incorporated with parts taken from an ATV, including the wheels and suspension. The vehicle is named Chameleon for its ability to adapt. Variations in design can be manufactured easily by 3D printing replacement chassis parts.

RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE COMMUNICATIONS ARCH

AECOM's 'Buildings and Places' team were interested in exploring the possibilities for 3D printing pieces of rail infrastructure. In this project the Scaled team were given the dimensions within which the arch structure needed to be contained. Scaled duly came up with a 3D printed design that was prototyped and installed at Bristol Parkway station. The arch is an example of the size of structure that Scaled can produce.
